Major changes have been made to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme as part of the Government’s recent Spending Review. Revenue raised from the purchasing of carbon allowances will no longer be recycled back to participants, but will essentially become a further tax on energy usage.
The allowance sale has been delayed by one year to April 2012 at which time allowances for 2011-2012 emissions will be bought. The CRC performance league table will be published as planned but will no longer have financial implications, only a reputational one.
